The Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State said its structures remain intact across the 20 local government areas of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Secretary of the party in Lagos State, Mr Sam Okpala, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

Okpala said the party had put necessary modalities in place and strengthened its structures to ensure a successful outing in the 2027 general elections.

He assured members and supporters that the party remained strong and united in spite of the internal crisis facing it.

According to him, the Labour Party in Lagos has commenced voter sensitisation and mobilisation ahead of the elections, with plans to expand its grassroots structures across the state.

Okpala said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had made it mandatory for all political parties to register members through the e-registration platform across the federation.

He said the party began the registration process shortly after the 2023 general elections.

“We started preparation since 2023 and we are still here today and stronger,” he said.

The LP secretary said the party remained people-oriented, adding that its focus was on mobilisation and voter education ahead of the elections.

According to him, the party belongs to the masses and will continue to engage residents on the need to participate actively in the democratic process.

Okpala urged citizens not to be intimidated or discouraged by fear from participating in elections.

“Fear of violence, intimidation and electoral malpractice contribute to low voter turnout.

“We do not want people to be afraid and fail to perform their civic responsibility,” he said.

Speaking of the leadership crisis within the party, Okpala admitted that the dispute had affected LP, but expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would resolve the issues in the party’s favour.

“We are hopeful that as the Supreme Court gives its judgment, it will be in our favour and we will reclaim the party,” he said.

Okpala expressed confidence that the Labour Party would record better performance and make greater political impact in the 2027 general elections. (NAN)
