felix A two-year-old child allegedly abducted and concealed inside a sack bag has been rescued by police operatives in Warri, Delta State.

The suspect and the child were also saved from being lynched by an angry mob.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed on Wednesday that its Quick Response Squad (QRS) intervened at Igbudu Market on May 10, 2026, at about 9:15 a.m., after residents intercepted a 29-year-old woman carrying the child in a suspicious manner.

The suspect, Fejiro Obaduemu of Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri, was said to have been spotted with the toddler hidden inside a sack, raising suspicion of child theft.

As onlookers gathered and tensions rose, operatives of the QRS arrived at the scene and rescued both the suspect and the child from what could have escalated into a fatal mob attack.

Obaduemu sustained injuries during the mob action and was taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for treatment before being placed under arrest.

Further investigations reportedly led detectives to the child’s parents, and the toddler was reunited with the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri.

Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement that preliminary findings indicated the suspect allegedly confessed to being sent by an unidentified accomplice to steal the child.

“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the said accomplice and unravel the wider network connected to the crime,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the command was intensifying efforts against child trafficking and related offences.

He confirmed that comprehensive investigations were underway to dismantle criminal networks involved in child stealing across Warri, Effurun, and other parts of the state.

“The Command remains committed to protecting children and combating all forms of human trafficking and related crimes,” he said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving children to the nearest police station or the command’s emergency line.
