Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has said it is ready to deploy about 2,000 megawatts of its stranded generation assets to help improve electricity supply in Lagos State.

The managing director and chief executive officer of NDPHC, Jennifer Adighije, made this known during a visit to the managing director/CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), Temitope George, on Friday.

Adighije noted that Lagos currently receives roughly 1,000MW from the national grid against an estimated demand of 12,000MW, creating a significant supply gap that NDPHC is prepared to help close by supplying an additional 1,500MW in the near term and making longer-term investments in transmission and distribution.

“From the Lagos Electricity Market Report published recently, we can see there is a huge demand and supply gap for energy. This is the role we want to play, which is why we are engaging with LASERC to support the scaling and acceleration of distributed access to electricity in Lagos State.”

Adighije said that NDPHC has an installed capacity of about 4,000MW but currently dispatches only 400–500MW daily, leaving substantial stranded capacity, NDPHC’s head of Corporate Communications, Emmanuel Ojor,  provided a statement.

She said the company’s mandate spans generation as well as transmission and distribution, positioning NDPHC to scale up power supply across the gas-to-electricity value chain and to support Lagos’ goal of broader access and more reliable service.

Describing the Lagos market as “vibrant and commercially attractive,” Adighije said NDPHC is willing to invest in transmission and distribution assets to ensure reliable, affordable electricity to the last mile. She added that the company has led sector reforms and filled infrastructure gaps in the past, making it a suitable partner for LASERC.

“The Lagos electricity market is a very lucrative and vibrant one. This is a market where we are willing to make huge investments. In the past, we made investments in the form of interventions, so why would we not invest in a market where we have a clear line of sight to investment recovery?

“We are very keen to invest in transmission and distribution assets to ensure we can deliver quality, reliable and affordable electricity to the last mile,” she added.

Welcoming the delegation, LASERC MD Temitope George lauded NDPHC’s investments and affirmed the state’s commitment to improving power supply. George noted that Lagos has regulatory plans to secure 24/7 supply in some franchise areas and expressed confidence that NDPHC’s engagement and investment could help deliver continuous power to residents.

“Recently, during our maiden stakeholders’ session, we stated that part of our regulatory agenda is to ensure some franchise areas within Lagos enjoy 24/7 power supply. With the NDPHC MD’s visit today and the company’s willingness to partner with Lagos to provide power and invest in infrastructure, we are confident that Lagos residents will begin to see 24/7 electricity supply in the near future,” she added.

Adighije was accompanied by Prof. Stephen Ogaji, NDPHC general manager, Commercial & Business Development.
