President Donald Trump has said the United States will not rush into a nuclear agreement with Iran, insisting that existing economic and maritime restrictions will remain in place until a final deal is reached.

In a post on his Truth Social account on Sunday, Trump said US negotiators had been instructed to proceed carefully, arguing that time was on Washington’s side.

“The negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal in that time is on our side,” he wrote.

He also stated that “the blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed.”

The comments come amid ongoing diplomatic discussions between Washington and Tehran over a possible framework to end tensions in the Middle East, including Iran’s nuclear programme and maritime access routes.

Trump said both sides should “take their time and get it right,” while reiterating his long-standing opposition to the 2015 nuclear deal reached under former President Barack Obama.

“Our relationship with Iran is becoming a much more professional and productive one,” he wrote, adding that Iran must not be allowed to develop or acquire nuclear weapons.

Iranian officials have confirmed that talks are progressing toward a draft understanding, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei describing it as “a memorandum of understanding… a framework agreement composed of 14 clauses.”

According to reports, a proposed arrangement could include a temporary extension of a ceasefire, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and renewed discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme.

However, US officials quoted in international reports say key details remain unresolved, warning that Iran’s internal decision-making process could delay any final agreement.

In Washington, several Republican lawmakers have also expressed concerns about the direction of the negotiations, warning against concessions that could strengthen Tehran’s nuclear capabilities or regional influence.
