African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
It declared that party members would be “sue” the Waziri Adamawa should he decline to contest the presidential poll.
Atiku’s endorsement took place during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday at the International Conference Hall in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Gusau, the state capital.
The meeting was attended by members of the State Executive Committee (SEC), representatives of the National Executive Committee (NEC) from the state, the party’s candidates for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the stakeholders said the decision followed extensive deliberations on the nation’s political and economic challenges, stressing the urgent need for experienced and visionary leadership capable of restoring hope, unity, security and prosperity in the country.
The ADC leaders described Atiku as one of Nigeria’s most experienced democrats and a detribalised statesman with a longstanding commitment to democratic governance, economic reforms and national development.
According to them, the former vice president possesses the leadership qualities, administrative experience and national outlook required to steer Nigeria toward recovery and stability.
The meeting was marked by strong expressions of confidence in Atiku’s leadership capacity, with the participants insisting that the current state of the nation demands his experience, courage and sense of national responsibility.
“We will sue the Wazirin Adamawa if he refuses to contest,” some participants reportedly declared during the meeting, underscoring the level of support and enthusiasm surrounding his possible candidacy.
The stakeholders further observed that Nigerians were increasingly demanding transparent leadership and credible democratic processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the meeting, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, popularly known as “Doctor,” a former APC Zamfara Central Coordinator for the 2023 Presidential Election, said the circumstances and alleged electoral manipulations that affected the outcome of the last presidential election in the state would not recur in 2027.
He expressed confidence that the voters would freely and decisively support credible leadership in the next election cycle.
The ADC Zamfara chapter also pledged total commitment and unwavering support toward the success of Atiku’s presidential ambition, vowing to intensify grassroots mobilisation across all local governments, wards and polling units in the state.
