Members of the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday participated in the party’s presidential and governorship primary elections held across Kaduna State.
.
Our correspondent, who monitored the exercise, reports that party members turned out in large numbers to vote for their preferred presidential, governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.
There were no reported cases of violence or disruption as of the time of filing this report.
Kaduna State leader of the ADC and former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, did not participate in the exercise following his detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations of financial misconduct, claims he has consistently denied.
Speaking with our correspondent on telephone over the conduct of the primaries, the ADC State Publicity Secretary-elect, Darius Kurah, said the exercise was peaceful in Southern Kaduna and across the state.
“I am in my village in Southern Kaduna and the ADC primaries went smoothly without any issue here. Our party members came out and voted for candidates of their choice. Across Kaduna State, I called different local government areas and they told me there was no problem and the voting went on without hitches. Hopefully, between this evening and tomorrow noon, the collation of results will be completed and announced,” he said.
