Gombe State governor and chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has called on politicians and voters across the country to embrace peaceful coexistence ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor made the appeal during a reception held at Government House Gombe, yesterday shortly after participating in the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Central Eid Prayer Ground in Gombe.

The Eid prayer was led by the Deputy Chief Imam of Bubayero Central Mosque, Gombe, Ustaz Aliyu Hammari.

The governor said political actors across party lines must conduct their activities within established democratic rules and avoid actions capable of threatening national peace and stability.

He warned that political ambition should never be pursued at the expense of unity and social harmony.

“No meaningful political ambition or struggle for power can succeed in an atmosphere of rancour, division and intolerance,” the governor said, stressing that democracy can only thrive where mutual respect, understanding and adherence to the rule of law prevail.

The governor expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting citizens the opportunity to witness another Eid-el-Kabir celebration and called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace, unity and economic prosperity.

The reception at the Government House attracted prominent personalities, including Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Mohammed Luggerowo, the APC governorship candidate in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, senior government officials, and president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya.
