Tinubu Pays Glowing Tribute To Sunday Dare At 60, Hails Loyalty, Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to former minister of youth and sports development Sunday Akin Dare, as he marks his 60th birthday, describing him as a loyal ally, accomplished professional and committed nation-builder.

In a State House statement issued on Thursday ahead of Dare’s birthday on May 29, President Tinubu celebrated his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications for his contributions to journalism, governance and Nigeria’s democratic development.

The President reflected on their longstanding political relationship, recalling Dare’s role during the formative years of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to Tinubu, Dare remained steadfast and committed after returning from the United States to join the progressive political movement in Nigeria.

The President said the former sports minister played a significant role in the intense consultations, planning and alliance-building efforts that eventually led to the formation of the APC between 2013 and 2014.

“Together, day and night, from 2013 to 2014, we were in the crucible, planning, strategising, consulting and engaging with like-minded people in our bid to forge an alliance between progressives in the North and South of Nigeria,” Tinubu stated.

He praised Dare’s professionalism, resilience and ability to manage multiple responsibilities, noting that these qualities distinguished him during his earlier service as Chief of Staff and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

Tinubu said Dare consistently demonstrated leadership, courage and innovative thinking in his assignments.

The President further disclosed that it was partly in recognition of these attributes that the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, appointed Dare first as Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management at the Nigerian Communications Commission before later naming him Minister of Youth and Sports Development.

Tinubu also commended Dare’s contributions to his current administration, noting that his expertise in digital and new media has strengthened government communication efforts under the Renewed Hope agenda.

Beyond public service, the President praised Dare’s dedication to family values, community advancement and national development, describing his recognition as Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and traditional title of Agbaakin of Ogbomosoland as fitting honours.

“I congratulate Sunday on reaching this milestone age of 60 and particularly on his immense accomplishments at this age,” Tinubu said.

The President thanked Dare for his enduring partnership and continued service to the administration, while praying for good health, wisdom and many more years of service to Nigeria.
