Governorship aspirant Ishaya Inuwa Durkwa in Adamawa State has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship selection process in the state, alleging that no valid primary election was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and the Electoral Act.

Inuwa said his decision to join the ADC was anchored on its promises of fairness, inclusion and internal democracy.

He explained that his camp was prepared to participate in either a consensus arrangement or a direct primary election, but maintained that no consensus was reached, making direct primaries the only lawful option for selecting the party’s governorship candidate.

According to him, the party’s guidelines for direct primaries were not followed, insisting that no election was held.

Describing the process as a breach of due process and democratic principles, the governorship aspirant said such irregularities should not be tolerated in Nigeria’s political space.

“Losing an election would never have been a problem for me. Democracy allows for victory and defeat. But the painful truth is this: there was no election,” Durkwa stated.

He said he would challenge the outcome in court, stressing that the legal action was necessary to defend justice, due process and democratic accountability.

Durkwa also expressed concern over what he described as the erosion of trust in the democratic process, warning that continued disregard for electoral procedures could discourage young Nigerians from political participation.

Despite the dispute, he urged his supporters not to lose hope, insisting that the “People First Project” remains committed to justice, competence and public service.
