Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has warned against complacency ahead of Nigeria’s second-leg FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Guinea, insisting his side remains fully focused despite holding a commanding first-leg advantage.

Nigeria’s U-17 girls will host Guinea on Sunday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, seeking to complete the job and secure passage to the final round of the qualification series for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The Flamingos are firmly in control of the tie following an emphatic 5-0 victory in the first leg played in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire — a performance that showcased the team’s attacking flair, tactical discipline and growing maturity.

Despite the comfortable cushion, Busari revealed that maintaining the right mentality among his players has become a major priority since returning to camp in Ikenne-Remo.

The coach acknowledged that overconfidence can naturally emerge after such a dominant result, but stressed that his technical crew has continued to demand discipline, focus and hard work during training sessions.

Preparations have remained intense, with the Flamingos maintaining high standards as they seek another convincing display before their home supporters.

Busari likened the situation to preparing for examinations, noting that success is only sustained through constant effort and repetition.

“It happens in football because when you are ahead of a team in terms of goals and performance, complacency can naturally set in as human beings,” Busari said.

“I see Guinea as a team that can still want to fight back.”

The coach emphasised that the Flamingos remain determined to entertain supporters while continuing their football development.

“On our side, we still need to give more because we are playing at home,” he added.

“Our fans want to see the beauty of the game, we want to showcase what we have, and we want to win convincingly.”
