Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe are set to carry the UEFA Champions League trophy onto the pitch ahead of Saturday’s eagerly anticipated final between Arsenal and PSG.
According to French publication Le Parisien, the pair have been chosen to perform the ceremonial role in keeping with UEFA’s long-standing tradition of involving former or iconic figures connected to the competing clubs.
Henry, widely regarded as one of Arsenal’s greatest-ever players, will represent the North London side, while Kimpembe, a product of PSG’s academy and a fan favourite in Paris, will carry the honour for the Ligue 1 champions.
The trophy presentation has become one of the most symbolic moments before the Champions League final, adding glamour and emotional significance to European club football’s biggest occasion.
Last season, former PSG midfielder Javier Pastore and Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti were entrusted with the duty before PSG’s emphatic victory over Inter in Munich.
Kimpembe has already confirmed his involvement and expressed pride at being selected for the prestigious role.
“It’s a great honour to represent Paris Saint-Germain in this Champions League final,” Kimpembe told Le Parisien.
“I hope it will bring luck to the team and to all Parisian supporters.”
With excitement building, Henry and Kimpembe are expected to add further spectacle to an already highly anticipated showdown.
