Tinubu Has Turned Nigerians Into Beggars, Says Zamfara NLC Chairman

The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Zamfara State, Comrade Sani Halliru Magaji, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging that its economic policies have impoverished Nigerians and worsened living conditions across the country.

Magaji stated this in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP while assessing the administration’s performance three years after assuming office, describing the government’s handling of the economy, fuel subsidy removal and workers’ welfare as poor.

He argued that rising inflation, high fuel costs and declining purchasing power have pushed many Nigerians into hardship, claiming that both workers and pensioners are struggling to survive under the current economic realities.

“The way and manner we have been treated is disappointing. Look at workers’ wages, look at pensioners and people without jobs, and look at artisans. Their daily earnings can no longer sustain them. Nigerians have been turned into beggars,” he said.

The labour leader particularly faulted the removal of fuel subsidy, describing the policy as painful and economically damaging.

“Before now, I could travel to Kano and back with about N30,000 worth of fuel, but today it costs about N70,000. Inflation has risen drastically and an average Nigerian can hardly afford basic food items. A common man can no longer eat comfortably,” he said.

Magaji also accused political leaders of prioritising their own welfare over that of ordinary citizens.

“When there is a salary increase for workers, it is publicly advertised, but when politicians approve huge payments for themselves, it is done quietly,” he added.

The Zamfara NLC chairman maintained that there was little justification for many of the government’s policies, insisting that the administration had failed to address the economic challenges facing Nigerians.

“There is no justification for many of the things they do. It is an inhuman government. Anybody praising this government is not telling the truth,” he said.
