Matt Brown, the eldest son of the Brown family featured on Discovery Channel’s ‘Alaskan Bush People’, has died at age 42. His body was recovered from a river in Washington state on Saturday, May 30.

His brother Solomon Isaiah “Bear” Brown, 38, announced the news on Instagram, saying the death appeared to be self-inflicted, pending a formal coroner’s determination. Another brother, Noah Brown, was present at the scene and assisted in recovering the body and providing an identification.

Bear had previously posted an emotional TikTok video acknowledging reports of his brother’s disappearance, though he was unable to confirm details at the time.

Matt Brown had a well-documented history of substance abuse and had been estranged from his family in recent years. “He struggled for a long time,” Bear said. “I worried he was going to end up OD’d or something like that.”
