Inuwa Yahaya At Seven: A Record Of Transformation

As Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya marks seven years in office, Gombe State offers a compelling case study in purposeful leadership and transformational governance.

When he assumed office in 2019, the state faced daunting challenges: weak revenue, decaying infrastructure, struggling schools and healthcare facilities, and institutions in need of renewal. Today, the story is markedly different.

Across the state, roads now connect communities once isolated by neglect. Solar-powered streetlights illuminate major urban centres, while sustained urban renewal projects have transformed the physical outlook of Gombe. Through the Network 11-100 initiative, over 1,000 kilometres of roads have improved mobility, commerce, and access to opportunities.

Education and healthcare have witnessed some of the administration’s most significant gains. A state of emergency in education led to the construction and rehabilitation of schools, recruitment of teachers, and the return of hundreds of thousands of out-of-school children to classrooms. In healthcare, revitalized primary health centres, expanded health insurance coverage, and upgraded hospitals have strengthened access to quality medical services.

Beyond infrastructure and social services, Governor Inuwa Yahaya has pursued fiscal discipline and institutional reforms. Internally generated revenue has grown significantly, while technology-driven initiatives have enhanced transparency and blocked leakages. Agriculture, environmental restoration, and industrial development have also received strategic attention, positioning Gombe for long-term growth.

Perhaps most importantly, these achievements have been delivered in a state that remains one of the most peaceful in Northern Nigeria despite regional security challenges.

Seven years may not complete the journey, but they provide sufficient evidence of direction. The administration’s record demonstrates that with vision, discipline, and effective management, meaningful development is achievable even in challenging circumstances.
