Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has assured residents of improved and sustainable water supply following the approval of N21.89 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrading of key water treatment facilities in the state.

The approval, which covers the Challawa and Tamburawa water treatment plants, was disclosed in a statement issued recently by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.

Speaking during the Hawan Nasarawa Sallah homage, Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to tackle the persistent water supply challenges affecting Kano metropolis and adjoining communities.

He explained that the sum of N9.9 billion has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of the Challawa Water Treatment Plant, while N11.99 billion will be used for the upgrading of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant.

According to the governor, the projects are designed to ensure regular and reliable pipe-borne water supply across the state, particularly in urban centres where demand has continued to rise.

Yusuf stressed that access to potable water remains a top priority of his administration, expressing confidence that ongoing interventions would restore effective water supply before the end of his tenure in 2027.

He noted that the overhaul of the major facilities would significantly boost water production capacity and enhance distribution efficiency.

In a related development, the governor announced plans to provide subsidised fertilisers to farmers during the ongoing rainy season as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity.

He said the initiative is aimed at easing the burden on farmers, increasing crop yields and strengthening food security across the state.

Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and agricultural development, describing both sectors as critical to the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Kano State.
