The Niger State-owned Abdulkadir Kure University Minna (AKUM) has matriculated 1,426 students for the 2025/2026 academic session as the Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammed Aliyu Paiko announced compulsory medical, drug and substance abuse test for new students.

The vice chancellor while addressing the matriculating students at the main campus in Minna yesterday said the test was in line with the directive from federal ministry of education.

Professor Paiko said those who  test positive with certain sickness would  be quarantined for treatment and those who test  positive to substance abuse would be counselled  and  closely monitored for rehabilitation.

He revealed that similar exercise was conducted last year during which less than one percent was affected and treated accordingly. He urged  the new students to study hard  and secure a brighter future and shun social vices.
