A former Minister of Information and Labour Party (LP) chieftain, Hon. Labaran Maku, has expressed deep concern over alleged plans to compromise the integrity of the Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

Speaking at a press conference in Akpata community, Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, Maku alleged that nine wards with high voter registration had been identified for electoral manipulation.

He warned against any attempt to alter security arrangements in the senatorial district for political gain.

“Our votes must count. Any move to disrupt the peaceful conduct of this exercise will be resisted by the people. We have credible reports of secret meetings and plans to deploy hired political thugs,” Maku stated.

He noted that the Labour Party commands strong grassroots support in Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga and Wamba LGAs, and accused the state government of resorting to intimidation out of fear of defeat.

Maku further called on INEC, security agencies and civil society organisations to remain neutral and ensure transparency.

He also urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that actions at the state level do not undermine his agenda for peace and development.

“We will not tolerate rigging. Allowing it to continue will only breed insecurity in our state,” he added.
