Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has described democracy as the catalyst for sustainable socio-economic and cultural development in the country.
The American-trained technocrat also charged Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence, connectivity, unity of purpose, social cohesion, and good governance.
Prince Madumere made this known while addressing journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Sunday .
The Imo East Senatorial aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) advised Nigerians to renew their mindset and believe that democracy remains the roadmap to industrial revolution, infrastructure renewal, and job creation for the country’s teeming youth.
He called on leaders at all levels to place the interest of the people above personal and political considerations, stressing that the true essence of democracy lies in accountability, service delivery, transparency, and inclusivity.
He said, “as our nation commemorates another Democracy Day on June 12, I urge Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices made by our democratic heroes and the collective responsibility required to sustain and strengthen democratic governance.”
According to him, Democracy Day remains a symbol of the people’s power, resilience, and unwavering determination to build a nation founded on justice, equity, freedom, and the rule of law.
Prince Madumere, a human capital development expert, noted that although Nigeria has made significant progress in its democratic journey, there is still a need for greater commitment to good governance, accountability, security, economic growth, and the welfare of citizens.
The Imo East Senatorial hopeful reaffirmed his commitment to championing policies and initiatives that will promote development, create opportunities for youths, empower women, strengthen the local economy, and ensure effective representation.
Madumere expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future and encouraged citizens not to lose faith in the country but to continue participating actively in the democratic process while working together to build a more prosperous and united nation.
The former deputy governor also extended warm felicitations to the people of Owerri Zone, Imo State, and Nigerians across the country on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our faith in our nation and recommit ourselves to the ideals of democracy. Together, we can build a society where justice prevails, opportunities abound, and every citizen can aspire to a better future,” he appealed .
Prince Madumere further wished the people of Owerri Zone, Imo State, and Nigerians a peaceful, joyful, and memorable Democracy Day celebration.
Speaking ahead of another election season, he appealed to the electorate and stakeholders in Imo State, particularly those from Owerri Zone, to embrace what he described as a paradigm shift through the ‘Journey of Grace’ initiative for the emancipation and advancement of the zone.
