The Acting Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG), Dr Mohammed Goje has presented the letter of appointment to the new Mai Ngazargamu, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud, following his appointment by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Leading a high-powered government delegation, Goje said the appointment was based on the recommendation of kingmakers and stakeholders of the Ngazargamu Emirate.
Presenting the letter on behalf of the governor, the Acting SSG said the choice of the new Emir reflected the confidence reposed in him by both the traditional institution and the state government.
He urged the monarch to work closely with the people and government in promoting peace, unity and development across the emirate, stressing that harmony among citizens remained the foundation for sustainable progress.
The appointment followed the death of the former Mai Ngazargamu, Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam, who died recently in Egypt after a prolonged illness and was buried in Damaturu.
In his acceptance remarks, the new Emir expressed appreciation to Governor Buni, members of the State Executive Council, the Yobe State House of Assembly and stakeholders from Geidam, Yunusari and Bursari local government areas for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to work with community leaders, security agencies and residents to promote peace and stability in the emirate, which has been affected by insurgency over the years.
The royal father also called on those involved in armed conflict to lay down their weapons and embrace peace, assuring that his reign would focus on unity, reconciliation and development.
Before ascending the throne, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud served as Turakin Ngazargamu for 16 years in addition to representing his constituency in the Yobe State House of Assembly and later served as Commissioner for Livestock Development.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari has during the occasion offered prayers for a peaceful and successful reign for the new Emir.
