Troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recovered a cache of high-calibre weapons, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other equipment after overpowering suspected Lakurawa terrorists during an offensive operation in Kebbi State.

According to a statement issued late Monday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the operation was carried out on Sunday, June 14, around the Dogon Daji general area in Dandi local government area of the State as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism and criminal activities in Nigeria’s North-West region.

The Army said its troops deployed “superior firepower” against the terrorists, decisively overwhelming them and forcing them to flee their hideout. It added that a follow-on pursuit along the group’s withdrawal routes resulted in the recovery of a large cache of weapons, explosives, and logistics equipment abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

Items recovered during the operation included Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launch tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple IEDs, two motorcycles reportedly used by the terrorists for mobility, battery chargers, and various personal belongings. The military also stated that no casualties were recorded among its personnel during the engagement.

“The operational success underscores the unwavering commitment of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the region,” Osoba said in the statement.

He added that the Nigerian Army “remains resolute in sustaining offensive pressure on these criminal elements, denying them freedom of action and disrupting their nefarious activities to ensure the safety and security of law-abiding citizens.”
