Princess Ariane of the Netherlands wore a tiara in public for the first time on June 17, marking the occasion with an appearance at a state banquet honouring a visit from Japan.

The 19-year-old, youngest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, attended the dinner at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, where she chose Queen Emma’s Diamond Tiara for her debut.

She paired the piece with matching drop diamond earrings, both originally belonging to her great-great-great-grandmother, according to royal-watcher blog The Court Jeweller.

Ariane also wore the Japanese Order of the Precious Crown in honour of the visiting delegation. The banquet doubled as her first appearance at a state occasion.

She was far from the only royal woman dressed for the occasion. Queen Máxima wore the Stuart Tiara in its full setting, featuring the 39.75-carat Stuart diamond at its centre.

Princess Catharina-Amalia, 22, chose the Mellerio Ruby Parure Tiara, a piece she has said she long admired growing up, while Princess Beatrix, the king’s mother, wore the Dutch Diamond Bandeau, another heirloom tied to Queen Emma.

Other attendees included Princess Margriet in the Mellerio Diamond Tiara, Princess Laurentien in the Dutch Laurel Wreath Tiara, and Empress Masako of Japan in Princess Chichibu’s Diamond Honeysuckle Tiara.
