‎The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State chapter, has commenced an indefinite withdrawal of services over the non-payment of lecturers’ May and June 2026 salaries.

‎The union said the industrial action took effect at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 10, following a resolution reached at its congress held on Friday.

‎In a notice signed by the Chairperson of ASUU-AAUA, Comrade Bolu Oshodi, the union said the congress reaffirmed earlier resolutions reached on April 28 and June 18, 2026, directing members to withdraw their services until the outstanding salaries are paid.

‎According to the notice, the withdrawal of services is “total, comprehensive and indefinite” and will remain in force until the university authorities and the Ondo State Government settle the salary arrears.

‎The union maintained that members would not resume academic activities until the outstanding salaries for May and June 2026 are fully paid.

‎”The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid,” the notice said.

‎The development is expected to disrupt academic activities at the state-owned institution as lectures, supervision of students, meetings and other official duties are set to be suspended indefinitely.

‎ASUU-AAUA also informed members that the National Visitation Team of the union would visit the branch on Monday, July 13, to address concerns over the 2025 agreement signed between ASUU and the federal government.

‎The meeting, according to the union, is aimed at briefing members on issues surrounding the implementation of the agreement and receiving feedback from the branch.

‎The industrial action has also thrown the university’s academic calendar into uncertainty, as students were scheduled to commence their second semester examinations on July 20.

‎With lecturers withdrawing their services indefinitely, the planned examinations are now likely to be postponed unless the salary dispute is resolved before the examination date.
