The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a landslide victory in Edo State local government election.

It won all the 18 chairmanship seats across the state’s local government areas.

The election, conducted on Saturday by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), was held to elect chairmen and councillors for the 18 councils in the state.

Announcing the results, EDSIEC declared candidates of the APC winners in all the chairmanship contests, further consolidating the party’s control of grassroots governance in Edo State.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, while reacting to the outcome, described the election as largely peaceful and commended voters, security agencies and other stakeholders for ensuring a calm and orderly electoral process.

The poll ended over 16 months of caretaker administration in the state’s local government councils following the political dispute between the APC-led state government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP had, however, boycotted the election after announcing its withdrawal from the exercise a few days before the poll. Despite the boycott, EDSIEC said 12 other political parties participated in the election.

Reacting to the APC’s clean sweep, the party’s Vice Chairman in Edo State, Hon. Sylvester Aigboboh, described the outcome as a clear indication of the party’s popularity and acceptance across the state.

According to Aigboboh, the victory reflects the confidence Edo people have in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo.

“Edo State is APC and APC is Edo State. As far as we are concerned, with the good work of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our amiable Governor Monday Okpebholo, the 2027 elections are already a done deal,” Aigboboh said.

He also expressed appreciation to residents of the state for supporting the ruling party during the election.

“I want to thank the people of Edo State for coming out in their numbers to support the APC. It is a clear demonstration that the people are happy with the ongoing transformation taking place in the state,” he added.
