The command’s public relations officer, SP Nafiu Habib disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, saying the incident was reported to the ‘A’ Division Police Station on July 19, 2026, by a 47-year-old resident of Unguwar Ngas in Bauchi local government area.

According to the statement, the complainant alleged that one Clement Anthony, a 40-year-old, of unguwar Ngas, Inkil, Bauchi, armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and intentionally shot Mr. Jacob Bature, a 55-year-old, the Mai Anguwan Ngas, during an altercation.

The victim sustained severe gunshot injuries to the right side of his chest and collapsed unconscious. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where doctors confirmed him dead.

Nafiu added that the victim’s remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary pending further investigation.

Police operatives promptly arrested the suspect and recovered the locally made single-barrel firearm allegedly used in the attack, along with one expended cartridge.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.

He also urged residents to refrain from the unlawful possession of firearms and to report suspicious persons or activities promptly to the nearest police station.
