EFCC Clears NIS Boss Nandap, Says Visa Fraud Probe Targets Officers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports linking the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, to an ongoing investigation into alleged visa racketeering, insisting she is not under investigation.

The anti-graft agency made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, describing media reports implicating the Immigration boss as false and misleading.

According to the EFCC, its investigation is focused solely on some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service accused of involvement in alleged visa fraud.

“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG,” the statement read.

The Commission disclosed that criminal proceedings are already pending before the Federal High Court against some immigration officers over the alleged visa fraud.

“There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court,” it stated.

The EFCC added that investigations are still ongoing and could lead to the prosecution of additional officers allegedly involved in the fraudulent scheme.

“Further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future,” the agency said.

It stressed that the ongoing probe does not, in any way, involve Comptroller-General Nandap.

The anti-corruption agency also urged media organisations to verify information relating to its operations before publication to avoid misleading the public.

“The media is enjoined to always seek clarifications on the activities of the EFCC to avoid misrepresentation of facts,” the statement added.
