More reactions have continued to trail Thursday judgement by an FCT High Court barring the SSS from arresting, detaining or inviting Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele over charges of terrorism-financing and economic crimes.

A member of the governing board of the National Human Rights Commission, Barr Jideani C. Jideani in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja at the weekend described the judgment as another triumph of the rule of law, even as he asked the DSS and other security agencies to obey and respect the decision of the court.

The human rights lawyer said the rule of law remains the right option for the SSS, the police and other security agencies in handling the charges against Emefiele.

He specifically asked the SSS to obey and respect the recent decision of the court which barred the agency and other security agencies from harassing the CBN governor.

Recall that Justice M. A. Hassan of the FCT High Court had in a judgement on the originating motion filed by the incorporated trustees of Forum for Accountability and Good Leadership restrained the SSS from arresting Emefiele.

But Jideani in a statement at the weekend commended the judiciary for accelerated handling of matter.

Jideani emphasised that “Chief Justice John Tosho of the Federal High Court and Honourable Justice M.A. Hassan of the High court of the FCT, deserve commendation for the expeditious manner in the handling of this application.

According to him, “this is what human rights activists and indeed the NBA has been clamouring for. One prays that this should be accorded to all applicants under the FREP rules irrespective of status or standing in the society.
