President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has hailed the country’s U18 boys’ team following their historic victory at the 2026 African Nations U18 Boys Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.

Nigeria produced a dominant display to defeat hosts Egypt 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-14) in Wednesday’s final, securing the country’s first continental title at the age-grade competition.

The triumph also earned Nigeria a place at the 2027 FIVB Boys’ U19 Volleyball World Championship, with the tournament serving as Africa’s qualifying event.

Reacting to the achievement, Nimrod described the victory as a testament to the Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s sustained investment in grassroots development over the past nine years.

He said the success vindicated the federation’s long-term vision of nurturing young talents capable of competing and excelling on the continental stage.

“This victory is a reflection of the hard work put into our grassroots development programme,” Nimrod said.

“It also provides a platform for these young players to secure opportunities with clubs in North Africa and even outside the continent.”

The NVBF president expressed confidence that several members of the victorious squad would attract interest from professional clubs across Africa and beyond, opening the door for promising careers at the highest level.

He also commended members of the federation’s board and other stakeholders for their unwavering support, describing their contributions as instrumental to the team’s success in Egypt.

Nimrod assured that the federation would continue to strengthen volleyball development across the country, insisting that the continental triumph would serve as motivation to achieve even greater success.

He disclosed that the federation’s attention would now turn to preparations for the 2026 African Nations Championship, where Nigeria’s senior men’s and women’s teams will be aiming for strong performances.

The NVBF boss expressed optimism that the U18 team’s historic achievement would inspire a new generation of players and further raise Nigeria’s profile in African and world volleyball.
