Trabzonspor Rule Out Salah Deal Amid Speculation

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has firmly dismissed reports linking Mohamed Salah with a move to the Turkish Super Lig club, insisting no agreement has been reached with the Egypt international.
Speculation gathered pace over the weekend after French outlet Foot Mercato claimed Trabzonspor were close to hijacking Besiktas’ pursuit of the former Liverpool forward. Reports on social media also suggested Salah could be unveiled during the club’s 59th anniversary celebrations on Sunday.

However, Doğan categorically denied the claims, stating that Salah was neither set to join the club nor expected to travel to Trabzon.

“There is no such agreement,” Doğan told Turkish broadcaster A Spor.

“As for plans to bring him to Trabzon, there is no such plan. There is nothing to it.

“If there were such a plan, we would inform the media and our supporters. There is no such thing.”
While ruling out an imminent move, the Trabzonspor president admitted any club would welcome the opportunity to sign a player of Salah’s calibre.

“Salah is a very professional, highly successful player known all over the world. He has one of the best careers in football,” Doğan said.

“Of course, who wouldn’t want Salah? But as of now, there is no such agreement involving our club.”
Pressed on whether he had held talks with the 34-year-old, Doğan declined to comment, adding that the club would update supporters should the situation change.

He reiterated his stance during Trabzonspor’s anniversary celebrations on Sunday, again insisting there were no ongoing negotiations with the former Liverpool star.

Salah has been a free agent since leaving Liverpool earlier this summer after an illustrious eight-year spell at Anfield, where he scored more than 250 goals and won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Trabzonspor’s domestic rivals Besiktas have previously confirmed holding talks with Salah, although the Istanbul club has maintained it will not improve its current offer for the Egyptian captain.
