Mexican social media personality César Gastélum has been shot dead in the city of Culiacán after gunmen attacked him while he was livestreaming outside a fast-food restaurant.

The incident happened at about 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday, August 4, when Gastélum, who had built a following of more than 600,000 on TikTok through his comedy content, was reportedly with two companions. According to local reports, two armed men arrived on a motorcycle before one of them opened fire. Footage from the livestream reportedly captured the attack.

Gastélum was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the shooting, security personnel, including members of the Mexican Army, the State Preventive Police and investigators from the Sinaloa Attorney General’s Office, responded to the area. Officials secured the scene, recovered spent shell casings and removed the victim’s body as part of the investigation.

Authorities have yet to reveal a possible motive for the killing, and no information has been released about potential suspects or arrests.
