Getafe Midfielder Uche Out For Season With Knee Injury

Getafe have lost Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche for the entire 2026/27 La Liga season after he suffered multiple ligament and meniscus tears in his right knee dduring a pre-season friendly against AS Monaco, the club confirmed.

The 23-year-old Nigerian was stretchered off following a reckless tackle from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa, who received a straight red card for the challenge. An MRI scan later revealed the full extent of the damage, overturning initial diagnoses of a severe contusion.

Uche will undergo surgery in the coming days and begin a lengthy rehabilitation.

The injury also rules him out of Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He had recently returned to Getafe after a loan spell at Crystal Palace.
