Bauchi JSC Appoints 7 Upper Sharia Court Judges, Promotes 177 Officers

The Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved the appointment of seven officers as Upper Shari’a Court Judges.

The appointments were approved at the Commission’s recent meeting in Bauchi, where several matters relating to the administration of justice, judicial appointments, staff development and discipline within the state judiciary were considered.

The newly appointed Upper Shari’a Court Judges are Rilwanu Abubakar Adam, Mukhtar Mohammed Bello, Inuwa Ibrahim Gamawa, Maigari Kabiru, Aliyu Hassan Jamda, Aminu Aliyu Ahmed and Lawal Bello.

The executive secretary of the Commission, Dr. Ibrahim Danjuma, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday and signed by the JSC Information Officer, Saleh Umar.

The Commission also approved the re-posting of four deputy chief Registrars to various courts, where they will perform judicial and administrative responsibilities as may be assigned to them.

They are Binta Umar Faruk, Abdullahi Ya’u Kundak, Abdullahi Rufa’i and Kawu Bala.

The Commission further approved the promotion of 177 staff members who successfully passed the promotion examination conducted on June 13, 2026.

According to the statement, 196 eligible staff of the state judiciary participated in the examination, while 19 candidates failed.

Consequently, the Commission approved the promotion of the 177 successful officers to their respective higher grade levels, subject to the applicable conditions of service.

The promotions cover officers who became due for advancement between January and June 2026 and satisfied the prescribed eligibility and performance requirements.

Meanwhile, the Commission dismissed Alyasa’u Ahmed, a staff member of High Court No. 8, from the service of the Bauchi State Government with immediate effect for abuse of office, fraud and gross misconduct.

The Commission also took disciplinary action against several other judicial officers and staff members.

Aliyu Ahmed Liman, a Registrar at High Court No. 8, was removed as Registrar and demoted from Assistant Chief Registrar, Grade Level 14, to Principal Registrar I, Grade Level 13, over abuse of office and misconduct.

Similarly, Shamsuddeen Yakubu of the same court was demoted to a lower grade level for misconduct.

Abdullahi Shehu, Registrar of Sharia Court II, Azare, was relieved of his duties as Registrar and directed to serve under a senior and experienced Registrar for six months for practical mentorship and training on the duties and responsibilities of a court registrar.

The decision followed findings of abuse of office and other misconduct.

Another officer, an Assistant Chief Registrar on Grade Level 14, was demoted to Principal Registrar I, Grade Level 13, for engaging in active legal practice while serving in the Bauchi State Judiciary.

The Commission also suspended Abdulmumini Abdulhamid, a Sharia Court Judge in Lame, from judicial duties for six months and directed that he be attached to a court for further training and practical orientation on court procedures following findings of abuse of office and unprofessional conduct.
