Why You Won’t See Me Campaigning Around With Peter Obi Like 2022 — Aisha Yesufu

Social activist and prominent supporter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has explained why she will not be travelling extensively with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election, as she did during the 2023 presidential campaign.

Yesufu said her role ahead of the 2027 election would focus more on voter mobilisation, election-day organisation and protecting votes at polling units than accompanying Obi on campaign tours.

The activist stated this in a video clip posted on her official Facebook page on Sunday.

According to Yesufu, her extensive involvement in Obi’s 2023 campaign was largely aimed at helping Nigerians understand that Obi was not a candidate for any particular ethnic or religious group, but a candidate for all Nigerians.

She said the campaign helped broaden Obi’s appeal, particularly among Nigerians who had initially doubted his chances in the 2023 presidential election.

Yesufu said her priority ahead of the 2027 election would be to mobilise supporters and ensure that votes cast for Obi are properly recorded and protected throughout the electoral process.

She urged supporters to build networks at polling units and coordinate efforts to monitor voting, counting and collation.

She also called on voters to understand how results are recorded and remain vigilant against errors or manipulation during the entry of results.

“Your vote that you voted, it must be entered. You must see it manually entered. Follow it. Escort your vote from your polling unit to the ward collation centre,” she said.

Yesufu explained that while she would still campaign with Obi whenever necessary, she would not make travelling with him from state to state her primary focus.

“There are so many other things that I am doing. I am going to be doing so you might not get out as much as possible to ensure that I’m doing this,” she said.

She added that other young Nigerians were already contributing to the political effort through voter mobilisation, photography, content creation and other activities.
