Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have foiled an attempted mass abduction by terrorists led by a suspected terrorist kingpin, Mallam Shuaibu, in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security personnel in the rescue team who vehemently opposed revealing their names because they weren’t authorised to speak said troops responded to a distress call on 16 August 2026, following reports that the terrorists had stormed the community.
Preliminary information indicated that Shuaibu and his associates were reportedly angered by the earlier arrest of some of their collaborators by troops while attempting to procure motorcycles and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, for the terrorists.
Following the arrests, the terrorists allegedly laid an ambush in a millet farm along the route, where they attacked passing vehicles and targeted occupants whose vehicles lost control and veered into the surrounding bushes, apparently with the intention of abducting them.
The swift intervention of the troops denied the terrorists the opportunity to execute their plan, forcing them to withdraw into nearby bushes. Nine civilians, including a 5-month-old infant, were successfully rescued from the scene.
However, two female victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.
