The Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs (NSCEA) has expressed solidarity with a former presidential candidate, Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies over her alleged deregistration from a medical benefit scheme associated with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) and Renaissance.

Adesanya-Davies has reportedly indicated her intention to pursue a N15 billion legal claim if the alleged deregistration is established to have been unlawful and if appropriate remedies are not provided.
NSCEA in a statement signed by its senior executive, Bishop Alubi Worusa, called on all parties to approach the matter with fairness, transparency, compassion and respect for the rule of law.

The religious body stressed that the dispute should not be reduced merely to a disagreement between individuals, adding that,” it potentially raises broader questions concerning retirement benefits, spousal protection, medical security and administrative fairness.”

It urged SPDC/Renaissance and the relevant pension and healthcare administrators to examine the matter carefully and ensure that every applicable retirement-benefit rule is applied consistently.
