Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to personally lead the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the FCT and Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike disclosed this yesterday in Chikuku, Abuja, after inspecting the ongoing Phase II dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road.
He said he would soon inaugurate campaign teams in the FCT and Rivers, where he would coordinate the mobilisation of support for Tinubu.
The minister said political groups backing the president were already putting their structures in place, while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was also preparing for an aggressive campaign.
“The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), I believe, is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign.
“For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to fully kickstart.
“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which I will lead. All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready and you can see the enthusiasm,” Wike said.
Wike also linked the administration’s infrastructure projects in the FCT to the 2027 elections, arguing that the impact of the projects would generate support for Tinubu at the polls.
He dismissed suggestions that electoral malpractice would account for the president’s performance in the territory, saying residents would reward visible development with their votes.
“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against Mr President as far as this election is concerned.
“This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes,” he said.
The minister further expressed confidence that the administration’s infrastructure record would strengthen support for Tinubu and candidates aligned with his political camp, including former FCT senator Philip Aduda and candidates for the two House of Representatives seats in the territory.
“It is very obvious. Nobody will be able to claim rigging in the FCT. The ‘rigging’ is the projects we are delivering, making the people happy,” Wike said.
Speaking on the road project, Wike commended the contractor and engineers for the progress recorded and pledged that funding would be provided to ensure completion by December.
“This is my first time getting to this side of the road, and I can see how highly populated this area is,” he said.
Wike said infrastructure delivery remained central to effective governance, noting that the response of residents to government projects showed the importance of providing functional public infrastructure.
“You can imagine the enthusiasm and happiness on the faces of the people. That is why we say the essence of governance is to make people happy.
When the people are happy, those in authority are happy,” he added.
