Reasons Why Wike’s Trip To Rivers State Matters

Reasons Why Wike’s Trip To Rivers State Matters

• The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been in Rivers State for the past few days, energising his political base ahead of the 2027 elections.
• He had pledged to win the state under his Rainbow Coalition, which includes the ruling APC and some opposition parties.
• He had declared that if he fails to win the state and the FCT, he will resign from office as minister.
• Rivers is one of the states with the highest number of registered voters in Nigeria and the highest in the South-South region, with 3,736,434 eligible voters, according to INEC.
• Losing the state would mean more than losing his political base; it could also expose him to potential probes by an opposing political administration in the state.
