Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested a suspected terrorist collaborator in Kaduna State and destroyed three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted along a major road in Zamfara State.
The troops also recovered 73 rustled livestock abandoned by fleeing terrorists in Zamfara.
The Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Gusau.
Danja said troops of Sector 1, acting on credible human intelligence, arrested one Yusuf Adamu at Kuyello in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on October 8, 2026.
According to him, during preliminary interrogation, the suspect admitted to collaborating with terrorists, including recording a video of a female kidnap victim who was allegedly sexually assaulted to facilitate ransom demands.
He said the suspect further alleged that the victim was killed after ransom was paid and that he received N50,000 for his role in the crime.
The Army spokesman said investigations were ongoing to apprehend the principal suspect, Yusuf Iliya Sani, and other collaborators.
He said in a related operation on the same day, troops of Sector 2, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, discovered and safely detonated three IEDs planted by terrorists along the Magami-Dansadau road in Zamfara State.
Danja noted that the successful clearance of the explosives had restored safety and freedom of movement along the route, a development commended by residents and motorists.
He added that troops of Sector 2, acting on intelligence on movement of terrorists with rustled livestock between Kombo and Gurusu villages, swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists.
“The troops’ superior firepower forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning the rustled animals. The recovered livestock comprise 14 camels, 19 cows and 40 sheep,” he said.
Danja said the animals were moved to a secure location by troops in conjunction with local vigilantes for further action.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces and other security agencies to dismantling terrorist networks, neutralising threats and protecting lives and property, and urged members of the public to provide credible and timely information on suspicious persons and movements to security agencies.
