Kebbi State government has dismissed a recent report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which classified the state as one of the poorest in Nigeria.
The state commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, made the dismissal yesterday during a press conference held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
He described the UNDP report as an old one which covered the period from 2018 during the three years of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which the former minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, revised and made public in order to tarnish the image of the Kaura-led administration.
He called on the opposition candidates to concentrate on what would bring development to Kebbi, rather than on condemnation or tarnishing the image of someone who is doing his best for the state.
Birnin Kebbi further appealed to the people of Kebbi State not to be carried away by overzealous aspirants seeking cheap votes in the forthcoming general elections.
The commissioner, however, noted that Governor Nasir Idris has moved Kebbi State to greater heights within his three-year administration, which rescued a very bad situation of economic dislocation and widespread poverty, accentuated by Malami and his cohorts.
