Kaduna Govt Denies Releasing ₦2.3trn For APC Presidential Campaign Rally

The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as fake a viral letter claiming that Governor Uba Sani approved and released ₦2.3 trillion for the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign.

The state government said the purported document was fraudulent and designed to mislead the public while undermining the governor’s reputation for fiscal discipline and prudent management of public funds.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday.

Maiyaki said the letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled: “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” contained several inconsistencies that cast doubt on its authenticity.

He explained that the document, purportedly addressed to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, falsely alleged that ₦2.3 trillion had been approved and released for the campaign flag-off.

According to the commissioner, the claim was inconsistent with the state’s financial position, as Kaduna’s 2026 budget stood at ₦985.92 billion.

He noted that the alleged campaign expenditure was more than twice the state’s entire annual budget and was not backed by any genuine appropriation, approval or expenditure records.

Maiyaki further pointed to discrepancies in the document, including the incorrect spelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and what he described as the unauthorised use of the governor’s signature.

“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Gov. Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no N2.3 trillion was budgeted, approved or released,” he said.

The commissioner described the allegation as entirely fictitious, accusing those behind its circulation of deliberately attempting to deceive Nigerians.

He maintained that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Sani had pursued policies centred on fiscal responsibility, transparency, accountability and the prudent use of public resources.

Maiyaki said the administration had prioritised investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection as part of efforts to improve residents’ welfare.

He also expressed concern over what he characterised as coordinated misinformation intended to tarnish the governor’s image and discredit his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The commissioner warned that forging official correspondence and circulating false claims involving public finances could amount to criminal offences.

“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law,” Maiyaki said.

He urged individuals and groups criticising the government to base their allegations on verifiable evidence rather than fabricated documents.

Maiyaki disclosed that the state government was taking steps to trace the origin of the purported letter.

He also called on security and investigative agencies to investigate the document and ensure that anyone found responsible was subjected to appropriate legal action.

The commissioner appealed to media organisations and members of the public to authenticate official documents before publishing or sharing allegations relating to government spending.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace, strengthening institutions, developing infrastructure, improving citizens’ welfare and promoting sustainable governance.

Maiyaki added that the administration would continue to uphold prudent financial management and remain focused on its development agenda despite what it described as deliberate attempts to spread misinformation.
