Vehicle owners who converted their cars to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) have protested its unavailability in Minna, Niger State, lamenting that they have been unable to access the product for the past three months.
The protesters besieged the NNPC Mega Station along the Western Bypass axis in Minna, one of the CNG stations in the area, to draw the attention of the authorities to their plight.
They said the persistent shortage had undermined the benefits of converting their vehicles from Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to CNG, which is considered a more affordable and environmentally friendly alternative.
According to the vehicle owners, they incurred substantial costs converting their engines to use CNG in anticipation of lower operating expenses, only to find the product unavailable in Minna.
They described the situation as counterproductive, arguing that the investment in conversion had failed to deliver the expected savings because they could not obtain the gas to power their vehicles.
One of the protesters, Engr. Israel Ogbonnaya, said the prolonged unavailability of CNG had forced them to stage the protest and draw the attention of the relevant authorities to their difficulties.
The vehicle owners called for urgent intervention to restore CNG supply in Minna and ensure that motorists who had invested in conversion could access the product.
