Four formal investigations reportedly failed to substantiate plagiarism allegations against late British academic and sociologist Professor Jason Arday, according to a report published by Byline Times on October 21, 2026.

The findings emerged months after Arday, 41, was found dead at his home in south London following his resignation from the University of Cambridge amid allegations of plagiarism and questions about aspects of his professional history.

The Metropolitan Police had described his death as unexpected but not suspicious. Officers were called to his address by the London Ambulance Service shortly after 3 p.m. on a Friday, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Byline Times, four formal investigations failed to substantiate the plagiarism allegations against the professor. Academic publisher Taylor & Francis also reportedly conducted a separate investigation that appeared to conclude without establishing the claims.

The findings have raised further questions about the allegations against Arday and the scrutiny he faced before his death.

Arday served as Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Cambridge, where his work focused on race, inequality and social justice.

His death drew attention to the circumstances surrounding his departure from the institution, while the latest report has renewed scrutiny of how the university investigated and handled the plagiarism allegations.

The findings also highlight the importance of thorough, fair investigations into academic misconduct allegations, particularly when they carry significant implications for a scholar’s professional reputation.

The Byline Times report, published on October 21, 2026, provides further details about the investigations and their reported conclusions.
