Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his recent stage stunt in Akure, Ondo State, describing the action as an insult to President Bola Tinubu.
Igboho made the remarks on Sunday in Ibadan during the launch of his security outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network.
The activist warned that he would not hesitate to confront anyone who insults Tinubu, either directly or indirectly.
“You jumped up like a frog, asking whether Baba Tinubu could jump like that. Can you see that he lacks a father figure?” he said.
“May God grant Baba Tinubu long life and allow us to grow old like him. May God give us a son who will become president of Nigeria.”
Igboho also cautioned against mocking elderly people, questioning why Tinubu’s age had become a subject of debate in discussions about the president’s physical stamina.
“How old is Tinubu compared with the Zambian president that you would jump up and say he could not jump as you did?” he asked.
“Tinubu has shown us mercy. So, whoever abuses Tinubu, I will abuse that person in return. I will challenge them and mess them up to a level they never imagined possible.”
Although Igboho did not identify the Zambian president he referenced, Zambia’s current president, Hakainde Hichilema, is 64 years old. The country’s first president, Kenneth Kaunda, died in June 2021 at the age of 97.
Makinde had on Thursday jumped off the stage during a South-West town hall meeting organised by the Makinde/Daura campaign organisation in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The governor used the stunt to demonstrate his physical stamina ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He also challenged other presidential aspirants to perform a similar feat, telling the audience: “If they can do that, vote for them.”
Makinde urged Nigerians to consider the physical fitness and stamina of candidates seeking to become president in 2027.
The Oyo governor said he would not make age an issue in the election but would instead focus on the energy and capacity of candidates to cope with the demands of the presidency.
