Bandits have abducted 14 women working on the farm of an Islamic teacher in Mekunjeri, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, and reportedly demanded food supplies from the victims’ families and the teacher for their release.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the armed men invaded the farm on Sunday afternoon and abducted the women, who were associated with the Islamic school run by the teacher, identified as a Malam.
Sources said the bandits had contacted the Malam and the families of the abducted women, demanding food supplies before releasing the victims.
The demands have raised concerns over the safety of the women, who remain in the custody of their abductors.
When contacted, the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would verify the details of the incident and provide further information.
“Let me find out the details and get back to you,” he said.
Further details were being awaited as of the time of filing this report.
