Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has said he is focused on breaking Kolo Toure’s record for the most Premier League appearances by an African player after moving into second place on the all-time list.
Iwobi reached the position after featuring in Fulham’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park last Saturday.
The 30-year-old had previously been level with former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, but he has now moved ahead with 329 Premier League appearances across three clubs.
The Nigeria international made 100 appearances for Arsenal, 123 for Everton and has featured 106 times for Fulham since joining the London club.
Former Ivory Coast international Toure currently holds the record with 352 Premier League appearances. Iwobi is now 23 appearances away from drawing level with Toure and 24 away from claiming the record outright.
Reacting to the milestone, Iwobi told Fulham’s official television channel, FFC TV: “It’s hard for me to cherish the memories. I’d like to keep on looking ahead, so it’s a nice little stat to have.
“But I’m trying to break the record. I think Kolo Toure is up there, so I’ll keep my eyes going forward and see if I can break that.”
Iwobi has scored once in nine league appearances for Fulham this season.
