African football greats, including Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Adebayor and El-Hadji Diouf, are arriving in Lagos ahead of Sunday’s Legends of Africa Football Game.
A world press conference is scheduled for Saturday as organisers and participating former internationals prepare for the highly anticipated reunion at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
The media briefing will provide an opportunity for the organisers and the football icons to discuss final preparations and outline details of the event, which is expected to bring together some of the continent’s most celebrated former players.
Nigeria’s contingent is expected to feature members of the Super Eagles’ celebrated 1994 and 1996 generations, including Okocha, Kanu, Daniel Amokachi, Finidi George, Mutiu Adepoju and Taribo West.
They will face a selection of African legends led by former Togo captain Adebayor, with Senegal’s Diouf, Ghana’s Stephen Appiah and Cameroon’s Rigobert Song also expected to feature.
Organised by Toptier Sports Management in collaboration with Afreximbank and CANEX, the fixture forms part of CANEX WKND 2026 and is designed to celebrate the contributions of players who helped shape African football on the international stage.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 5pm on Sunday, November 8, with the gates opening at 1.30pm.
Beyond the headline fixture, the programme will include a football clinic for 500 young players, entertainment and special recognition for the participating legends.
The reunion is expected to bring together generations of football supporters to celebrate the achievements and enduring influence of some of Africa’s finest players.
