The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Faruk Yahaya has called on the Nigerian Army personnel to upscale their leadership development skills in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He stated this yesterday when he opened a six-day Leadership Awareness Development Course 6/2023 for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers in Kaduna.

Represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, he said the Leadership Awareness and Development Course for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers in 1 Division Area of Responsibility is organised by the AHQ DAT and the NARC for SNCOs in the division.

According to the COAS who was the special guest of honour at the opening ceremony, the course which will run from the 27-31 March 2023 is specifically designed to cater for observed leadership gap/deficit between the subalterns and the young soldiers of the Nigerian Army.

“The course is packaged with contemporary/ current modules for Leadership Awareness and Development. The Leadership Awareness and Development Course is aimed at enhancing creativity and critical thinking skills amongst personnel of the Nigerian Army, so as to enable you to adapt and confront evolving security challenges facing our country.

“As a leader at your level, your ability to think fast and exercise command and control of troops placed under you is paramount to the success, growth and development of the NA and the country at large.

“Consequently, I urge you all to take advantage of this opportunity to upscale/develop your leadership skills, in order to enable you discharge your duties more responsibly, in tandem with the COAS Vision, to have “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in the defence of Nigeria.”
