Her daughter Zainab Bako, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Kano yesterday, said the 93-year-old widow died at Prime Specialists Hospital in Kano during a protracted illness.

Her funeral rites will take place at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, Kano, at a time to be announced later.

Some residents of the state described the deceased as a very religious, gentle woman and a caring mother.

Her late husband, Alhaji Audu Bako, was appointed military governor of the old Kano State from May 1967 to July 1975.
