AAC Attack On Defence Minister Misguided, Says APC G3

The APC Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3) has dismissed the criticism by the African Action Congress (AAC) against the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), describing the opposition party’s position as misguided and lacking direction.

Reacting to a statement by the AAC which questioned the Minister’s alleged involvement in political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, APC G3 said the remarks were an attempt to politicise the activities of a public official who has remained focused on strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Chuks Oyema, the group said the AAC’s comments should not be taken seriously by Nigerians, insisting that Gen. Musa has continued to discharge his responsibilities diligently while supporting initiatives that promote national unity, peace and development.

According to APC G3, the Defence Minister’s commitment to improving security and supporting government policies aimed at national development cannot be disputed, considering the ongoing efforts of the Armed Forces and security agencies in tackling insecurity across the country.

“The statement by the AAC lacks direction and should not be taken seriously by well-meaning Nigerians. Rather than acknowledging the sacrifices being made by the nation’s security personnel and the progress being recorded in several areas of national security, the party has chosen to engage in needless political rhetoric,” the group stated.

APC G3 argued that public engagements by government officials should not automatically be interpreted as partisan political activities, noting that citizens occupying public offices retain the right to participate in lawful activities that advance national development and democratic governance.

The group further maintained that criticism of the Defence Minister should be based on facts and performance rather than political sentiments, adding that Gen. Musa has remained committed to the task of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

APC G3 finds it ironic that the AAC, a party with little visible grassroots presence across the country, would seek to lecture Nigerians on democracy and public service. Rather than offering practical solutions to the nation’s challenges, the group said, the party appears more interested in issuing sensational statements designed to generate media attention.

The group accused the AAC of failing to provide practical alternatives to the nation’s challenges, saying opposition parties should focus on constructive engagement instead of what it described as sensational statements aimed at attracting public attention.

APC G3 reiterated its confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and the efforts of the Defence Ministry under Gen. Musa, expressing optimism that ongoing security reforms would continue to yield positive results.

The group therefore urged Nigerians to ignore what it called “baseless attacks” on the Defence Minister and instead support initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security and national development.

APC G3 reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots mobilisation in support of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
