The leaders and key stakeholders in the affairs of Kwara South, comprising Irepodun, Ifelodun, Isin, Ekiti, Oke- Ero, Offa and Oyun local government areas, have given the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq a clean bill of health on the performance of his administration in the last six years.

The Kwara South leaders unequivocally declared that the performance of Governor AbdulRazaq in six years dwarfed the collective achievements of his predecessors from 1999 to 2019 .

The leaders spoke at a stakeholders meeting organised by Kwara South Development Initiative( KSDI) held in Ilorin, the state capital. The theme of the meeting is “Strategic consultation of Kwara South leaders: Reawakening the giant.”

The convener of the meeting and chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University, Oko- Irese, Dr Johnson Thomas Adewumi, in his opening speech said: ” The performance of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, in six years dwarfs the collective achievements of his predecessors from 1999 to 2019 particularly in the areas of welfare and infrastructural development.

Ilorin city that used to look like the epicentre of poverty is now wearing a new look wherever you turn. Civil servants no longer receive half salary and their salaries have been increased. Pensioners get monthly alert. Thank you.

” On health, he rehabilitated General and Cottage hospitals and created three University Teaching Hospitals in the state, out of which one is located in Kwara South. The governor has reconstructed and rehabilitated several roads in Kwara south. Some others are at tender stages including
a completely new road in Oyun local government area. This is due mainly to judicious use of state resources.

” The governor had been busy rebuilding Kwara State since May 2019. Your Excellency, the difference is very clear and records are there. The governor believes and advocates equity among contending communities in the state.”

On the issue of security in Kwara south, Adewumi said :” Contrary to the views held by many, our Royal Highnesses and I boldly acknowledge and appreciate the enormous support that His Excellency, AbdulRahman AbdulRazq, CON, and his local government chairmen are giving to security architecture in Kwara south district. Conversely, our elected representatives at federal level have
abandoned us to our fate. It is disappointing.”

He urged the key stakeholders to get involved in securing their communities, adding that :” We must take ownership and compliment government efforts. I know for a fact that all members of Traditional Councils have voluntarily compelled themselves to make monthly contributions to support the security architecture and our gallant local vigilantes in Kwara south.”

Adewumi said KSDI is demanding a genuine change, counseling that: ” After years of insecurity, economic hardship, and poor or lack of effective representation, we must be more discerning than ever. Young people are increasingly unwilling to accept recycled leaders without clear visions for the future. Issues such as job creation, security reform, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development should dominate debates. Our youths want opportunities. Even those in diaspora want to come home. But news from home is often depressing.

” Going forward, Kwara south does not want candidates who has money to buy our votes. We must unite and select the candidate(s) who can present a credible, practical roadmap for reviving our community and ensuring security. I urge you as stakeholders, whom God will one day hold to account, to keep this in mind as we approach 2027. I am
sure Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq will not impose anyone on us. Unfortunately, some people are already erecting bill boards, giving and accepting money and sundry gifts from some intending contestants. When INEC blows the whistle for the commencement of 2027 election, Kwara South must unite to select candidates with verifiable community record of performance.

” I respectfully urge our our Royal Majesties not to accept money from anybody parading himself as candidate . I beg all the stakeholder in audience and on-line as well. Our people in Kwara south are tired of promises; they want tangible results. We must raise the stakes for existing and
potential candidates in the next election. I am urging all of us as stakeholders to please wake-up and look for credible men and women in our communities that we can send to Ilorin and Abuja as our true representatives”.

The foremost traditional ruler in Igbominaland, Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Alebiosu who spoke on behalf of other monarchs from the region corroborated the views of the convener of the strategic stakeholders meeting.

Oba Alebiosu asked “can anyone see the impact of any member of the National Assembly representing us? They have failed to touch the lives of their constituents. If you invite them for religious and community development purposes they will not turn up.
“In the next elections if they come to you canvassing for vote with money, do not hesitate to receive their money but vote for the best candidates.”

In his remarks, Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq represented by his deputy chief of Staff, Princess Olubukola Babalola sued for unity among the people, adding that: “Together, we can reawaken the giants of Kwara South, ensuring prosperity and security for all.

“Let us unite in this noble pursuit, working hand in hand to build a stronger, brighter Kwara. Your resilience and commitment have been the bedrock of our shared progress, and I commend you for your leadership role in shaping a vibrant Kwara South. Your dedication continues to inspire us all.We have prioritised infrastructure to unlock economic potential and improve lives.

I urge you to continue to support our efforts in all spheres, particularly in strengthening human security across the state.”

On the issue of insecurity, AbdulRazaq said : “We are sparing no resources to strengthen security and rout out criminal elements. Security is a collective responsibility, and your partnership and support for the security agencies is vital in this monumental task. I urge vigilance at all times as our enemies have informants and enablers within us.
Let us work together to unmask them and keep our communities completely safe and conducive for growth.

” At this point, I wholeheartedly acknowledge the community-driven initiatives and the sacrifices of everyone in this regard, including the council chairmen, traditional rulers, thought leaders, and our brave vigilantes. Our words are with the families of our heroes who died protecting us.”
