Abia State government has approved the establishment of a general hospital in Atani Abam Community, Arochukwu local government area, said the commissioner for Health, Enoch Uche.

Uche stated this after inspecting the site of the proposed hospital “which is in line with our push to ensure equitable distribution of quality healthcare facility across every part of the state.”

He described Abam as a large cluster of communities whose growing population deserve a modern health facility capable of providing comprehensive secondary healthcare services.

The commissioner said: “We are here on the directive of His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, to inspect the proposed site for the Abam General Hospital.

“The governor believes that every resident of Abia State, irrespective of location, deserves access to quality healthcare, and that is exactly what this project represents.”

He lauded the member for Arochukwu Constituency and Majority leader of the State House of Assembly, Uchenna Okoro, for ensuring that a suitable site was secured for the project.

He also thanked Atani Abam people for the donation of the land, noting that Abam Community deserves such facility which is expected to serve them and the neighbouring communities.

“This project will not end as another proposal on paper.

The designs are ready, procurement is ongoing, and we will soon move to the construction phase,” Uche added.

‎Also speaking, Okoro said the formal presentation of the land to the government demonstrated the people’s readiness to partner the government in bringing quality healthcare closer to them.

‎”We are prepared to provide every necessary support, including donating more land, because this hospital will bring development, employment opportunities and quality healthcare to our people,” he added.

‎In his response on behalf of the people, the chairman of Abam Community Union, Kalu Ena Kalu, expressed their appreciation to Otti for fulfilling their aspirations
